My name is Ryan Haines a 6’3”, 190 pound attacking central defender, right-foot dominant. Canadian/ Irish, born in 2006, playing for the London Whitecaps U17 OPDL team.
Since the age of 4 if have played football, initially in Stratford and Woodstock, Ontario. In 2018 my family moved to Dublin, Ireland where I played football for Dalkey United A.F.C. first team in South County Dublin for 4 years. Returning to Canada the summer of 2022, I have made the Whitecaps London OPDL team for 2022/2023 season. Summer of 2022 the Whitecaps of London allowed me to train and play with the U21 men’s team.
In Ireland, I attended CBC Monkstown Christian Brothers school where I was invited to play on the 2022, Junior Cup Team in Rugby. This level of rugby play, and strength and conditioning training, both on and of the pitch is at an elite level. The strength and conditioning training greatly helped develop my confidence as an attacking central defence man, improving my presence on the football pitch.
Off the pitch, my other interests include boxing and jujitsu. I train at the Brazilian Jujitsu academy in Stratford, Ontario. Both boxing and jujitsu require physical and mental strength. The mental discipline required in boxing and jujitsu help me to stay focused on the pitch. The mental discipline allows me to see the entire pitch, anticipate opponent’s moves, communicate to team mates and fluidly pass the ball.
The combination of Rugby, boxing and Jujitsu has provided me with a lot of experience at an early age. On the pitch, my style of play is physical, attacking football. Physical toughness helps me control the game, mental toughness, helps me stay very calm. Collectively this style of play allows me to see the pitch, create space and find open teammates, transitioning to offensive play, quickly.
